Haute Tip... What those pesky breakout could be trying to tell you.

What do those annoying breakouts mean on your face?

Your breakout can be a helpful tool in discovering what is going on with your body.

Here is a quick (kinda scary looking) sketch on what your breakout could mean.   I use a food journal to compare my breakouts with and see what foods/drinks/supplements are not agreeing with my skin.  I noticed that every time I eat wheat/flour I break out along my jawline.  I cut out breads and the breakouts disappeared. I noticed the same thing every time I eat dairy, only the breakouts occur just under my cheekbones. Remember healthy skin starts from the inside! What are your breakouts trying to tell you?  Feel free to email me with questions.

My Friday Must Have...

Becca Cosmetics Brush Soap

This brush soap is the best I have ever used.  I love how soft, clean and fresh my brushes feel after.
Unlike with spray on or shampoo my brushes instantly retake their shape and aren't left looking damaged.   I wet the brush bristles and swirl around on the soap pad until it rinses clean.  The scent is a lemon zest that leaves the brushes smelling perfect but it isn't a lingering smell.  One tin lasts me about a month, I wash my brushes after every use (since they are on different people) and I wash about 150 brushes a day.  So it lasts a fair amount of time.
Becca describes it as:
Designed with your prized makeup brushes in mind, this unique Professional Brush Soap is formulated to clean, condition and sanitize, lengthening the lifespan of your brushes and making them work better for you. In a unique vintage-style shaving tin, this soap is designed for all brush shapes and sizes and works on both natural and synthetic fibers.
Unlike shampoo, which is designed for human hair types and can leave brushes limp or brittle, this special soap is universal in its cleansing properties. Its solid formula is made from nourishing plant oils ensuring that it is gentle on brush fibers while tough on product build-up. Unwashed, brushes can be a common breeding ground for bacteria, which can in turn cause skin irritation and blemishes, along with reduced application performance.

Check it out at Becca.

A Trip to... Grand Vellas Spa/ Resort Nueva Vallarta

This is an old review that I am reposting... as a hint, hint to husband for our anniversary coming up!

My husband suprised me with a trip to the Grand Vellas Spa & Resort.  An all inclusive amazing experience.  I LOVED it.  Fireworks the first night and I was sold!

We had a beautiful suite with a lanai looking out over the ocean and huge infinity pool.  The weather was perfect and not too hot.  The room was luxurious to say the least, with a jacuzzi tub that opened into the main room and a bed on the lanai to nap in the afternoon sunshine and breeze.  Husband and I spent most of our time down at the pool, under an umbrella, snacking on guacamole, jicama and what ever drink, Angel, our pool side attendant, brought over.  We never left the resort but since I have been to Puerta Vallarta several times I didn't feel like I missed anything.  Now on to the good stuff, 5 stars, world class, unbelievable spa!

The first day Husband and I had a couples massage.  We arrived an hour early as requested and were perfectly surprised at the faculties.  We were taken to separate dressing rooms and water rituals.  I was introduced to my private attendant, and shown where to change and store my things.  She then brought me a pitcher of iced water and asked where I would like to begin.  I started with the steam room, she gave me a chilled peppermint hand towel for my neck, set the timer and left me to steam and meditate.  She returned after a while and brought me to a pressure shower (my new favorite thing EVER), a large stone room with a HUGE shower head in it.  She instructed me to stand under it and turned it on.  A very powerful spray of luke-warm water poured down for about 10 seconds and was the extremely refreshing.  After I dried off I was taken to the dry sauna to steam for another 15 minutes and returned to the pressure shower before moving to the hot spa pool.  After soaking for 20 minutes, my attendant returned and brought me to a Swedish shower, a capsule with  multiple shower heads that spray your whole body at once.  I was then brought to a foot pool and relaxed with a cup of jasmine tea, while waiting for my massage.
My attendant then introduced me to my massage therapist and she took me to the treatment room.  The building was unique with windy hallways and a beautiful sky lighted courtyard.  Simply stunning.  My husband joined me here and we were brought into the room together.  Once inside they started a foot bath ritual that was just lovely and then the therapists stepped out, leaving us a set of chimes to use once we were on the table.  The massage was basic but very relaxing after all the other treatments we had already.  After the massage we were greeted with a handwritten recommendation card and a cup of warm peach tea.  Overall just lovely.

I loved the spa so much I decided to go back a few days later.  This time I had a Diamond Ritual.  A scrub, bath, massage and facial.
I started the same water rituals and then was shown to a spa suite.  Where I began a very invigorating  honey scrub. The therapist really worked the scrub in, a nice surprise since most scrubs are a bit on the week side.  I showered it off with the in-room shower and then started a magical bath.  A large capsule/tub that played music and a light show.  I loved the scalp massage I received during the massage but I am a bit on the short side and kept slipping under the water.  There weren't any places to "hang" onto so not as relaxing as it could have been.  After the bath was a wonderful massage.  The therapist even adjusted my back a bit.  A little different than I have ever experienced before. A great massage.  She finished with a facial/peel.  The facial was great and one of the best I have ever received in a spa setting.  Extractions and all.  I loved it so much I went back the next day for a mani/pedi!  Overall the most amazing spa I have ever been to.  The location, the feel, the water rituals, the service, the personal touches were all perfect and totally what I expect and long for in a spa.

The pictures were taken from the Grand Velas Website all my other pictures have my husband in them and he refuses to let me post them!

A Trip to... Vista Blue Spa at the Monterey Plaza Hotel

I was ready for a little unwind and decided to go back to my old-faithful and favorite spa in Monterey.  Vista Blue.  I chose the Vista Blue Day on the Bay Package.  A real treat!

2 8 0 M i n u t e s - $ 5 9 5 ( a l a c a r t e $ 6 6 5 )

• Choice of Espresso Limón Slimming Body Treatmen
Bliss-on-the-Bay Body Treatment
t or
• Choice of Custom Massage (50 minutes):
Exfoliating Scrub or a Mineralizing Mask
• Choice of Rejuvenation Facial (50 minutes) or
Epicuren™ Anti-Aging Facial (80 minutes)
• Spa Pedicure (50 minutes)
• Spa Manicure (25 minutes)
• Two-Course LunchI started with a scrub and vichey shower... amazing.  The therapist was one I had like 2 years ago and she totally remembered how quickly I get cold.  So she cranked up the heat and kept me covered.  A nice touch.  The vichey was dreamy.  There really is no better way to describe it.  You lay down on a bed for a heavy salt scrub and after, a therapist manuvers a bar with multiple showerheads rinsing/massage you at once with warm water... I want one in my house!  After the shower she towled me off and applied a light body milk and I was off to the next treatment. Overall my FAVORITE treatment of all time!

A Massage followed and I went into a new room after a small break.  The room was warm and had soft lighting and music.  The bed was nice and the room smelled great, kinda like lavendar but I could be wrong there.  A new therapist came in, one I didn't recognize and I didn't catch her name.  She asked a few questions and got to work.  It was nice that she addressed my needs (R. Shoulder, Hip) and kept me covered and warm.  It was full body and included a nice scalp and foot massage.  Her touch was great and fluid and it was obvious she was confident and knew what she was doing.  The oil was not heavily scented and felt nice.  Overall it was a GREAT massage and I would return to the same therapist.

After another small break I began a facial.  I had the Epicuren™ Anti-Aging Facial (80 minutes).  While I am not a fan of the line, the facial was great. The scents and feel of the products were nice.  I just always breakout from the line.  The only gripe I could say is that there wasn't an "interview" of my skin so I felt it was a little cookie cutter and could be why I breakout so heavily after every facial here.  But the neck/shoulder massage is nice and I like the finishing touch of foundation w/ spf. I also really enjoyed that the esthetician didn't talk the whole time trying to sell me products. ( I had a facial over at another spa here in town and that drove me crazy!  Do a post consult and let me relax!) Overall nice.

My final appointment was a mani/pedi.  I was shown to another room and had a private mani/pedi.  It was a great room with a cool view of Cannery Row. I enjoyed the nail tech and her conversation and they had a decent variety of polishes to choose from.  Overall a great, relaxing, fun spa mani/pedi.

I finished my day with the sun deck and water rituals and a bit to eat.   A great way to get centered and back into a great mood!

PS the food was AMAZING and I did a little splurge on the fries! YUM!

Haute Right Now... Age Intervention Transitions by JMSR

JMSR AI Transitions...
I just can't live without this treatment serum.  Every time I do my acne comes back in full force.  I apply AM/PM everyday after my nourishing serum.  I then follow up with moisturizer and SPF.  I run out often and just skip a few weeks and seriously regret it, when my whole face is inflamed. As soon as I pick up another bottle my skin clears up and those stubborn red post-acne spots disappear. My pores appear smaller and my skin is definitely softer.  I hate the smell but it vanishes after the product absorbs.  I like to mix a little glycolic with it to give a little extra boost. I use it as step 3 in the morning as part of the 5 step program. JMSR says the following:

Age Intervention Transitions combines acne clearing and prevention with remarkable skin resurfacing and brightening technology and antioxidants. The technologies in Transitions not only improve acne, but also reduce the appearance of discoloration associated with acne and post acne inflammation. No more stubborn acne just clear, radiantly polished and younger looking skin.

Haute Idea... The Big Picture.

So most of you know that last week just didn't work out for me on so many things. I had a great time volunteering with the Safeway Foundation out at Bayonet, but received some disappointing news.  The place I was looking at was no longer available.  But I have jumped back up and am back in the game.  I just found another place!  So excited.  I am going tomorrow to view it and see if the space will work for what I am looking for.  Good news... they have steam/spa that the other place didn't.  I am still madly in love with the first place but it looks like it is not in the cards for me.  After going through a week of total disappointment, I am so excited to see that there might be another place that meets my vision! I'll let you all know what happens!

Haute Right Now...

I'm so in love with Sonya Dakar Bergamont Wash.
A soft lotion consistency and an amazing smell gives this wash a luxury feel.  With bergamont, chamomile, tangerine and sweet almond this wash smells dreamy.  I recently switched over to it as an alternative to the Cypress Citrus Wash (a little too heavy for the summer) and am in love.  It is light, and gentle enough to use as and eye make-up remover and am/pm face wash.  I haven't had any breakouts and my skin is softer and more hydrated looking and feeling than usual. It is soothing and purifying two big A+s in my book!
I really love that it is
• Paraben-free
• Sulfate-free;
• No artificial dyes
• No artificial fragrances
• No petrochemicals
• No animal by-products

For all of you with sensitive, dry skin this is a must have addition to your skin care routine.

Thank you to http://www.sonyadakar.com/ for the picture.

    Haute Wedding Looks...

I am so in love with this color pallet for brides this summer!

It's called Graceful by Being True cosmetics.  The perfect 6 colors to complete a soft, happy wedding glow.   So perfect!  I put LOTUS eyeshadow all over the eye and then began lightly working HEATHER into the crease and lower lid with a MAC 219.  Then I used ROSEWOOD in the crease along the whole length of the eye and finished with DAHLIA in the outside corner of the eye, all with the same 219.  I lined the eye dry with mahogany with a angled liner brush by True and under the eye with a shadow diffuser brush by True.  That wasn't quite dramatic enough for me so I lined the upper lid and bottom corner with True ying/yang pencil in black.  I finished the look with APRICOT blush and #1 liner with Alturistic Satin Gloss.  Here are some pics.  Yes I'm posing like a crazy person and no I never show teeth when I smile.

    What is your worst...

    Beauty habit?

Mine is the second after I get my nails done, I begin to chip away at the polish.  I just start peeling it off damaging my nail bed, cuticle and my poor manicurist's hard work! By the next day my mani looks as if I just did a weeks worth of dishes and then changed the oil in my car, and I'm trying to sneak over to the nail shop next door for a polish change between clients!  This picture is 36 hours after I received a beautiful manicure!  While I haven't yet found a cure (besides no polish, just buff,) I want to hear all about other peoples beauty no-nos.  From not washing off your make-up, to using body loofah to scrub your face.  Spill it lovelies I want all the bad details.
